Your Mid-Year Business Check-In: Time for Intentional Recalibration
By Rachel Anzalone, Founding Member and Director of Strategic Visioning at The Prosper Network
Can you believe we're already at the midpoint of 2025? Whether this year has unfolded exactly as you planned or taken some unexpected turns, now is the perfect time for what an intentional mid-year pause.
Just like wise gardeners assess what's thriving and what needs pruning, we can apply the same principle to our businesses. But this isn't your typical business review focused solely on numbers and metrics. Instead, we're examining how impact, profit, and pleasure are working together in your business—and where you might need to make adjustments for greater alignment and sustainability.
Why Mid-Year Check-Ins Matter
Six months provides the perfect amount of time to gather real data about what's working while still leaving room to make meaningful course corrections. Unlike waiting until December for an annual review, a mid-year assessment allows you to ensure that when you reach the end of the year, you're creating the results you set out to achieve.
There's a crucial difference between reactive pivoting and intentional recalibration. Reactive pivoting happens when we constantly change direction based on panic or the latest shiny object. Intentional recalibration is taking a thoughtful pause to assess what's working, what isn't, and what adjustments would serve our highest good.
Start with Gratitude and Celebration
Before diving into assessment, begin with gratitude. What are you genuinely grateful for from the first half of 2025? Think beyond business wins—perhaps you're grateful for resilience discovered during challenges, boundaries that preserved your energy, or difficult conversations that deepened relationships.
Next, consider what you're proud of accomplishing. This might be launching something new, showing up consistently for clients, reaching a financial milestone, or creating space for well-being. Celebration isn't superficial—it's neurologically essential for building confidence and momentum.
Assess Through the Satisfaction Strategy Framework
Now examine your business through three essential elements:
Impact: Who have you directly affected? What transformations have you witnessed? Are you creating the kind of change you intended when you started this year?
Profit: Where are you financially compared to your plans? Which revenue streams are working well? Most importantly, how sustainable does your current profit model feel—does it energize or deplete you?
Pleasure: What aspects of your business genuinely bring you joy? Where do you experience flow? Conversely, where are your energy leaks? How sustainable is your current pace?
Strategic Forward Planning
Based on your reflection, identify what you want more of and less of in the second half of 2025. Then revisit your original intentions for the year. What's working better than expected? What needs adjustment or perhaps complete release?
Choose one or two primary focus areas for the remainder of 2025—three at maximum. Ensure these areas create synergy across impact, profit, and pleasure. (Hint: If a potential focus area only serves one element while undermining others, it's probably not the right choice for sustainable growth.)
Your Next Step
Take what you've reflected on and choose one specific area where you want to create more alignment between impact, profit, and pleasure. Make it concrete and take one step forward this week.
Remember: You don't have to choose between making money and making a difference. You don't have to sacrifice your wellbeing for success. The satisfaction strategy isn't about perfect balance—it's about creating ongoing integration of what matters most to you.
